Chapter 71

Samantha studied the store window for a minute before starting inside. She’d traveled about ten feet from the door and realized that Trent hadn’t moved from the entrance. She sighed, turned around and backtracked to him.

“What are you doing? You said we could go shopping for new back-to-school clothes.” She couldn’t keep the edge from her voice, and the frustration from her face. “You said you’d look at them with me. I won’t make you shop for bras and stuff.”

Trent rolled his eyes skyward but then nodded. “All right, all right. I told you I’d go. At least I don’t have to deal with Danny too.”

“Oh, please. Danny’s easy. Get him a new pair of Ropers and a stack of Wranglers and you have him set for the year.”

Trent perked up. “Wranglers makes girl’s jeans.”

She scowled at him. “I am not living through my junior year of high school in jeans.” With that declaration she turned to disappear into a sea of pink.

“You realize it’s a lost cause. Right?”

Trent turned to find a man whose hair was the color of carrots smiling at him. “Excuse me?”

The stranger tilted his head toward the pink-filled store. “They aren’t coming out soon.” He stepped closer and held out his hand. “I’m Troy. My husband is around here somewhere. He wasn’t getting off the hook.”

Trent relaxed, having prepared himself for muttered profanity. He let himself smile. “Josh didn’t get off the hook. Not really. He’s at a junior rodeo with our son who thinks he has balls big enough to be a bull rider.’

There were a few glances in his direction and Trent’s face heated as he shrugged. “Sorry. Josh tells me all the time about using my inside voice. It’s kind of hard to remember when all I talk to most of the day are cows and horses.”

Troy waved his hand in Trent’s direction. “So this is all real? Not an urban cowboy thing.”

Offended for a moment, Trent gauged what he was wearing. Scuffed boots, a pair of Wranglers with the outline of his wallet on the back pocket, a cap from the co-op they bought feed from and a plaid shirt with snaps. He fit the stereotype right now. Trent chuckled and pushed up his shirt sleeve.

In a few second his sleeve was as high as he could slide it. But it was enough for the tattoos that covered three-fourths of his arms, but that the material had covered, to show. He held them out like he’d never seen them before. “How about now? Less redneck cowboy than before?”

Troy cocked an eyebrow and grinned. “I didn’t said anything about redneck. Be sides, calling someone a redneck around here isnt a big deal. Besides…” Troy pulled up the sleeves of his shirt and displayed an impressive set of tattooed sleeves. His pale skin showed off the intricate colors to amazing effects. He leaned in and studied the interplay of koi that looked like they were swimming down his arm to disappear beneath his watch.

He looked up and grinned. “Cool effect. It must have been a pain to lineup everyting.”

Troy twisted his hand a couple of times before confiding. “It was a complete accident. But I pretend it was this great planned thing.”

The pair found a seat and were lost in the conversation when Samantha emerged from the store to find Trent chatting with someone she’d never seen. It didn’t take much to get Trent to talk about his tattoos from the Northwest tribes.

“Let me guess. That’s your dad?”

Samantha glanced beside her to find a blond girl about her age. “Hi, I’m Lynn. Dad will show anyone who is the least bit interested his tattoos. You don’t even have to be interested. Not running works too.”

Samantha chuckled, liking the girl more with each passing second. “Same here. But he’s had them for years. You’d think he wouldn’t be so freaky about them.”

Both watched for a minute before a smile grew across Samantha’s face. She snickered and turned to Lynn. “How much guilt do you think we could accumulate if we wandered off ?”

Lynn’s lips curled into a mischievous grin. “At least a nice pair of shoes and maybe a new top.”

“My thoughts exactly.”

New contemporary western is coming!

Good news! My contemporary western “Camouflage” is being published by Dreamspinner Press in Jan/Feb of 2017. It’s a little time off but well worth the wait I think for those of you who enjoy my contemporary work.

“Camouflage” is about Jake, a college grad who came back to the little eastern Oklahoma town he grew up in to help his grandparents. But now that they are gone, he’s trying to find his life. He begins talking on-line with Nash and invites him to visit him from Atlanta. But Nash can’t bring himself to tell Jake he’s a rent boy. After all, he’s just there to spend the week…

Luke looks something like the image I put on this page, but mostly it’s to put you in a cowboy frame of mind. I’ll keep you posted as things progress, and yes this makes the third manuscript in the process. Two are even novels!

Chapter 70

Danny hated his job today, which consisted of repairing fence damaged during the winter. The horses in particular would rub and push against them until not much was still standing. High school was on summer recess and his dads’ made it clear Danny’s summer wasn’t going to be sleeping all day and playing video games all night.

Moral to the story? Danny had been up for hours. He’d eaten breakfast, and told what fence to fix. Now Danny scowled at that very fence. At least a quarter of the posts were rotting and needed replacement. They hadn’t even gave him the pickup to use. Just because one time he drove it to see Troy. It wasn’t that big of a deal, he only lived a few miles away.

But today he was using the oldest fucking ATV on the place. Its top speed might be ten-miles-per-hour. Downhill, with a good tailwind. All of which left Danny in a pissy mood and not very charitable toward any of his family. Even the grandfathers hadn’t sided with him. He wasn’t happy.

Danny heard his name being called from a distance and when he looked he spotted his friend Rob galloping toward him on his new Paint. He had to admit it was a beautiful animal, even if he didn’t think Rob was smart enough for a horse like it. But then Rob was good looking too.

Rob had the poor gelding almost trying to run sideways up the side of the hill instead of a nice safe canter. When he reached Danny, the young man watched in disbelief at Rob’s performance.

“One of these days you’re going to find a horse who doesn’t like the way you handle them and tosses you on your head.”

Rob gave him a wide grin. “Don’t worry about me. I can deal with any horse you name. They’ll perform just like I want them to, same way I take care of my men.”

Danny spread his legs, grabbed his crotch in one leather gloved hand, and thrust forward. “I got more meat here than you can handle you mouthy little shit.”

“Oh? You think so?”

“Enough for you to choke on, and keep you from talking.”

“Bring it then. We’ll see who is packing.”

Danny stared at him for several seconds before sighing. “I’ve got too much to do. I don’t want to get my ass chewed out for not getting the work done.” He paused for a moment before giving Rob a significant look. “But if you wanted to help…”

His friend beamed at him as Danny shook his head and wanted to make certain Rob understood. “I have a lot to do and you’ll have to actually get your little skinny ass in gear.”

“Hey! I can outwork your lazy butt anytime.” Rob grabbed a posthole digger and a wrecker bar and headed down the line to posts that needed replaced. Danny watched Rob until he knew the work was done right. Once he satisfied, he put the leather gloves back onto his hands and wrestled the roll of barbed wire from the ATV.

Once that was where he wanted it, Danny stuck the fencing pliers in his back pocket and set to work.

The two worked well together and most of the afternoon remained when they finished Danny’s section of fencing. His body ached and his clothing drenched with sweat. The shirt he’d tossed in the ATV hours ago had dried with patterns of salt stains. The sweat drying on his skin made him itch. He had no desire to ask for more work, and had an idea what Rob had in mind. Some stress relief wouldn’t be the worst idea ever. But a swim first sounded even better.

About that time Rob walked up with his horse in tow and grinned at Danny. “Looks like we’re done. I think we should have some fun.”

“Let’s go for a swim first, I wouldn’t mind cooling off.”

With a grin stretched across his face, Rob swung into the saddle and trotted toward the creek. Danny roared in pursuit, but it made little difference with the piece of antiquity he was driving. He arrived in time to see Rob’s white ass disappear beneath the water.

Danny rolled to a stop in a small grove of cottonwoods that flanked this part of the stream. His boots went flying, followed quickly by his pants and briefs. The cool water felt wonderful as he waded in. Rob swam closer as Danny sank until only his head stuck above the slow running water. He wrapped his legs around Danny’s mid-section, pressing his hard cock against his friend’s stomach. The sensation made Danny’s shaft stiffened. A moment later his cock rubbed up and down Rob’s butt crack. They shared an awkward kiss as he tried not to fire off his load.

Floating gently, their lust grew as they crawled over each other. He was ready. Danny needed to find relief.

“Danny! Where the fuck are you?” his dad called.

“Mother fucker!” Danny muttered as they scrambled for cover.

Chapter 69

Mitch enjoyed the quiet enveloping their house. They both loved to have the kids over, and even to spend the night occasionally. But the long weekend left he and Darrin tired and ready for rest.

He wriggled a little lower on the couch and pulled Darrin’s legs higher. Darrin shifted around until he was comfortable again. He put his iPad on his thigh and rubbed his free hand over his face. He pushed his glasses almost to his hairline before letting them drop to his nose.

“I love the grandkids, but I’m glad we aren’t the one’s taking care of them all the time, especially since they’ve discovered sex.”

“Or in Danny’s case—a warm hole,” Mitch said with a smirk.

Darrin covered his face with both hands and moaned. “Oh my God, don’t remind me. I needed a bucket of ice water to keep him and his special friend off each other.”

“It might have been easier if we’d let them go at it.”

“But we have to be all adult which means we will not condone whatever sex two horny teenagers might think up.”

Mitch threw his hands into the air and laughed. “Hell, they don’t even need to figure out things like we did. Get on the internet and search for how to fuck like bunnies.”

Darrin snuggled closer to Mitch and inhaled his scent. It still had as strong of an effect on Darrin as it did the first day they’d met. That tiny closet of a grad student office had been the beginning of a life together. He shifted his hold and pressed his face into Mitch’s armpit. He took a deep breath, and Mitch leaned down and kissed the top of his head. With a chuckle Mitch lifted his arms and tucked his hands behind his head the dark thick hair of his underarms filling his pits. The sharp musky scent made Darrin’s head swim, and his body tense. But he pulled away and rested his head in Mitch’s lap. “This is nice. I like cuddling with you.”

Mitch laughed and ran his hand down Darrin’s side. “You shouldn’t badmouth your grandson. You’re as horny as a teenager.”

“It’s your fault. This is what you do to me.” Darrin reached down, grabbed his hard shaft, and tugged it upward.

Mitch slipped his hands, running his fingers through Darrin’s short hair. He welcomed the sensation and took the bottom of Mitch’s shirt and pulled it open until the first snap sprung open. He slipped his hand into the shirt and ran it up Mitch’s fur covered belly. The masculine texture brought back the same sense of satisfaction he’d enjoyed for years.

Feeling both mischievous and lustful he grabbed the shirt and ripped it open. With his husband’s torso exposed, he pressed his hands over the body he’d loved for decades. The flecks of gray in the dark hair made it that much sexier. He lifted himself, kissed Mitch’s exposed nipple and flicked his tongue around it until it was a hard nub of flesh and there were soft sighs coming from Mitch.

“You’re starting something,” Mitch said.

Darrin crawled so he could get to Mitch’s jeans and soon had them down around his ankles. Mitch kicked a few times and sent his pants flying. A few tugs at the open shirt and Mitch sprawled across the couch naked. Darrin flipped onto his stomach, leaned forward, and kissed the top of Mitch’s shaft. He pinned it against Mitch’s stomach and eased his way down the hard length. By the time he had traveled to the bottom of his shaft, a stream of clear precome leaked down half his dick.

Mitch groaned deeply and lunged at Darrin and ripped at his clothes until Darrin was bare. He pulled Darrin onto the couch beside him. Darrin had no trouble cooperating and let Mitch pull them together. Their lips pressed against each other, the stubble from Mitch’s face sending sparks of desire through him. The kiss was lingering and left Darrin in much the same state he’d left Mitch. Their lips slowly separated and they lay panting a few inches from each other.

Mitch pressed his lips against Darrin’s ear and whispered. “Flip ends. I want some of what you were getting a minute ago.”

Darrin gladly complied and was facing Mitch’s crotch. He was leaning toward his goal when Mitch’s hot mouth encased the head of his cock, and Darrin almost lost it when Mitch drilled his tongue into the underside of his knob.

But he retaliated by popping Mitch’s knob into his mouth and circling the crown as fast as he could. He licked it from top to bottom until spit dripped from Mitch nuts. The action Mitch was giving Darrin drove him to the brink. Mitch pulled off and Darrin worked harder. Mitch rammed his finger into Darrin’s prostate, pushing him over the edge. His body tensed as wave after wave of ecstasy over came him.

With a grin of retribution he gave Mitch the same treatment, except Darrin plunged two fingers into Mitch’s tight butt before driving his mouth over the hard cock as deep as he could.

“Ah, fuck!”

Darrin’s mouth flooded, and he swallowed hard. Pleasure washed over him a final time and he slumped with his head resting on Mitch’s bare thigh. He leaned forward and licked a drip of white from the tip of Mitch’s cock to enjoy the musky flavor. He settled in against Mitch.

“Ah, shit. Maybe adulthood isn’t as bad as I thought.”

Chapter 68

Josh grabbed the halter’s lead rope just under the bulls chin and held it tight. Both this bull, and the one he’d put in the forward trailer compartment a few minutes earlier, seemed to be as tame as a family dog. Well, not exactly. Their family dog was a border collie that was much more frantic. The pup raced back and forth beside the trailer as if she could help.

He reached the point where the bull had to step into the trailer, and he wasn’t budging. Josh braced his heals against the wooden floor, leaned backward, and heaved with all he had. Nothing like a ton of beef that doesn’t want to be moved. I’ll be damned.

A few minutes later Trent stood panting, his hands braced against his hips as the bull shifted his weight and glanced toward them. Trent cocked an eyebrow as a grin appeared. “Hang loose. I’ve got an idea.”

Josh threw his hands into the air. “And exact what else can we do with a ton of baloney on the hoof that’s decided it will not move?”

Trent did a backward wave as he disappeared into the barns. Josh sat staring at the stubborn animal, thinking about how many burgers he could enjoy. The more frustrating part of the whole mess was the bull’s calm demeanor. He wasn’t afraid or agitated, he just refused to move.

Josh glanced back at the dark doorway Trent had disappeared through and wondered what he was doing. He was close to trying to find Trent when the soft jingle of chains being dragged across concrete came to him. His brows furrowed and then Ben shot through the opening with Noah at his side. The horse was wearing a simple pulling harness. Josh had to grin when Trent appeared, walking a few feet behind the other two.

Noah spotted Josh and gave him a nod as he guided the horse closer. With a click of his tongue, Noah backed the horse up and then turned to Josh with a wide grin.

“I hear you’ve got something big that you want moved. I think Ben and I can help.”

Trent smiled, but said nothing as he threaded the lead rope through the bars of the trailer to Noah. It only took a moments to tie to Ben’s light harness. Noah tapped Ben with the reins and the mammoth horse stepped forward until the rope was tight. With another soft chuck, Noah signaled Ben to pull. He leaned into the task, but nothing was moving.

After a few minutes of tug-of-war Noah scowled and stared at the bull. “What’s the son-of-a-bitch weigh? About a ton?”

Josh looked at the bull for a minute as if he’d never noticed him before and then nodded. “Yeah, about that. He’s the bigger one of the two.”

Noah looked through the trailer side at the bull they’d already loaded. It turned its head to study the man and then with taciturn indifference turned back to eating hay. Noah stepped away and studied the situations for a moment while his jaw knotted and released in a steady rhythm.

A smile that was slightly terrifying crossed his face as his gaze swept the pair. “Hang on. I’ve gotta idea.”

Josh and Trent nodded numbly as the blocky man led Ben back into the barn at a trot. Time stretched before the now recognizable jingle sounded. A second or two later Noah appeared with a pair of horses. But like none he could remember seeing before. These two were ponies, blocky and stout like Ben, but on a different scale. Their shoes were unique too. Cleats covered them and lifted them several inches higher, and raised the noise they made to a whole new level.

Jesse trailed behind, holding the end of a thick logging chain so it wouldn’t tangle with anything. The stout ponies moved with an eagerness that made Josh smile. Noah backed them into position and Jesse fastened them to the end of the bull’s lead rope. The horses braced to the end of the reins, ready to work. When the rope tightened, Noah signaled with a click of his tongue. The ponies lunged forward, almost galloping in place.

This time the obstinate bull had little choice but to move. Inch by grudging inch he leaned forward until a front leg moved and his hoof slammed into thick wooden floor. He glanced back to the pulling pair. They were making progress with each passing second. Another bang brought Josh’s attention back to the trailer where the bull was being slid over the smooth wooden floor. A minute later the bull stepped into the trailer, Trent slammed the gate shut, and Noah rained the ponies to stop.

Once they secured the bull, Josh walked over to where the guys were talking.

“Damn, I didn’t think those little guys could pull like that,” Trent said.

“Oh never doubt the power of a pulling pony. They have more heart and fire than the big horses. But these aren’t guys.” Noah grinned at the pair.

“Oh whatever. So they’re geldings.”

“Nope. Two mature ladies that know all the tricks. They’ve won state a couple of times.” He turned to Trent. “There’s nothing like two fine ladies who agree to work together.”
