“Oh, my God. You two are so weird!”
Josh poked the gummy worm into the ground up chocolate cookies and them started stirring them as he added the pudding. As he mixed the dessert he snarled at Danny, showing his fangs.
“Why would you think your parents are weird?”
Trent walked in adjusting the strips of cloth around him. Josh chuckled when it slipped down Trent’s waist again, showing him a flash of Trent’s tighty whities.
Josh ran his tongue over his teeth. “Yum.”
“That’s just gross. No one wants to see their parents making out!”
Josh sighed and rolled his eyes. “Licking my fangs and saying yum are hardly making out. Come on. Relax a little.”
Danny sighed melodramatically and stomped off to his room. Josh cringed when the door slammed. He turned to Trent and sighed. “We’re going to need to replace that door when he moves out.”
Trent chuckled and kissed the side of Josh’s neck and then playfully nibbled at his ear with the fake teeth. Josh trembled and felt the touch through his whole body before it landed in his crotch. He enjoyed the sensations for a few more seconds, until the tightening in his wranglers told him it had went far enough. His chest constricted and his breath began to to shorten as he pulled away.
“You’re going to start something.”
Trent smirked. “That was the general idea. This whole raising teenagers thing is cutting into our sex life.”
He trembled as Trent slid his hand over his crotch. Josh was fighting back the sensations as Trent gripped his hard shaft through the denim and squeezed.
“Ah, fuck. It’s been a while.”
Trent scraped the hard plastic teeth over Josh’s throat again and a sigh escaped Josh’s lips. Trent pressed him against the counter with his muscular hands kneading his butt cheeks. Josh closed his eyes and focused on the delicious feeling running through his body. Trent gave him a phenomenal squeeze that sent tremors through his system.
“Hey! Where is everyone?” The backdoor slammed as Mitch walked into the living room. Josh scrambled to hide what they’d been doing, while Trent seemed to be worried free. Josh fought off the insistent hands and leaned forward to hiss in his ear. “Samantha’s with them.”
That seemed to get through to Trent since he backed away muttering as he straightened his clothes. He leaned in and grabbed Josh’s chin and scowled. “We’re not done. I plan to tap that butt later.”
Josh chuckled but enjoyed the warm feeling that washed over him at the thought of what tonight might hold.
“Hey! Anybody home?”
Trent stepped around the corner. I hope his hard-on wasn’t still running down the leg of his jeans. Nothing I can do about it. Josh checked himself one last time before following Trent into the living room.
“Hey. How’s it going?” Josh asked.
Mitch’s gaze took in first Josh and then Trent. His smile grew larger as he did. “Looks like we might have interrupted something.”
Before Josh could deny it, Trent answered. “Yeah, you did. But it’s nothing I can’t pickup where I left off later tonight.”
Josh throbbed again but could feel the heat across his face. He decided to divert the topic completely.
“I just made some sweat tea. You want a glass?”
Mitch started chuckling. “You’d be a little easier to understand if you didn’t have in the fake teeth.”
The heat of embarrassment flashed over Josh again. It took him only a second to ditch the fake teeth in a paper towel. Trent walked beside him, and pinched his butt.
“Hey!”
“You two need a few minutes alone? Samantha is checking on the horses and Darren and I can take a walk around the house. It doesn’t look like it will take much.” Mitch smirked at the pair.
Trent started rubbing his chin with his gaze fixed on the ceiling. His mouth started to open, and Josh covered it with his hand. He gave Trent a warning look and then turned back to the other pair. He knew he needed to take charge of this conversation.
“Are you ready for Halloween? The kids are pretty excited about coming to the party at your house and getting to bring friends.”
Mitch cocked an eyebrow toward him. “Friends? Are you sure?”
“Of course. Samantha’s bringing a little friend of hers and Danny has some kid from school coming.”
“And the costumes? What are they?”
“Well I think Danny and his friend are both going as cowboys. I think Samantha’s are more like princess and prince.”
“Hmm, interesting,” Mitch said.
Josh cocked his eyebrow. “What do you mean ‘interesting’?”
“Nothing. Not a thing.”
“Bullshit. What are you thinking.”
“I’m thinking the hormones could be kicking in. What were you doing when you were their age?”
Trent’s expression dropped as Mitch’s words sunk in.

Josh rolled his eyes when Samantha dashed for yet another shop covered from ceiling to floor in pink, white and lavender. Somehow, in all the years of raising a daughter, he’d never thought of taking her clothes shopping. Even worse, they were looking for bras. He’d tried to talk every one of their female friends into going with Samantha, but they’d all laughed at him. One, and Josh could hear her young sons yelling in the background, told him it would do him good to take his daughter shopping.
Josh disagreed.
This wasn’t easy, or comfortable.
And no, being gay didn’t make it any easier. At least not for him. His idea of dressing up was having a new pair of wranglers that were starched. Dressing up was more Trent’s thing. But he’d had an appointment in the city.
“Why don’t you wait out here with the other single dads and grandpas,” Samantha said.
For some reason the words like a challenge to Josh. And he was not a single dad…and everyone should know it.
“I’m fine. You just lead the way and I’ll be right behind you.”
He thought he heard a sigh, but once they entered the store she disappeared into the warren of frills and skirts that looked the size of postage stamps. He cringed as she started in one corner. It looked like they would be at this for awhile. But then, he was like that every time they went to the big box store. She had the same look of wonder that he got when they opened the garden center up each spring.
He followed his daughter through the store for quite some time until he finally admitted defeat. Glancing around he spotted a bench close to the store entrance, sat down and started playing one of the games he’d downloaded onto his phone. He lost himself in the maze of his latest conquest.
“Dad. Dad!”
Josh finally realized they were calling for him. When did I get to be Dad instead of Da. He sighed and put the phone away. Pushing himself off the bench, he made his way to Samantha’s side.
“What’s up, Sammy?”
She gave him ‘the look’.
“Sorry. What do you need?”
“I want these.”
Josh’s stomach knotted as he looked at the tiny hangers she was carrying that were filled with pastel panties and training bras. He swallowed hard and then looked back at his daughter. “Did you find something you like?”
She picked up a small card and held it out for Josh to see. “Aren’t these great, Da? I love them.”
He realized Samantha was showing him a pair of earrings. Pierced earrings. His heart plummeted. They had more or less avoided the whole pierced ears issue with Samantha. He’d hoped this would have happened when Mitch was the adult on duty. But it appeared that it was going to be his problem. He was going to try and avoid it one more time.
“Honey, those look nice. But lets not pierce them today. Let’s look for some clip on earrings. Okay?”
Samantha lifted her gaze to Josh. “I want to get my ears pierced. They said if I buy the earrings here they’ll do the piercing for me.”
“Honey, don’t you want to talk with Daddy? He has a lot more experience with getting piercings, and I don’t think he likes the piercing guns they use in these places.”
A look of rebellion flashed across her face. “I want to do it now. It’ll be fine. My friends get their ears pierced here all the time. It’s just in the earlobe. It won’t be a big deal.”
Josh started to argue, but thought better of it. If this is the most rebellious thing she does…I’ll be thrilled.
“Okay. Let’s go talk to the girls who are going to do the piercings.”
Samantha threw her arms around Josh and held him tight. “Thanks, Da! It’ll be great.”
They made their way back into the store and Josh asked the employees all the questions he could think of. By the time he was finished, Samantha was obviously frustrated with her father. Josh signed the paperwork and found himself standing beside his daughter, who seem a lot less nervous about the procedure than Josh.
His stomach knotted when Samantha jumped as the gun clicked once, and then twice. Tremors were traveling through Josh as he paid for Samantha’s purchases and they made their way out of the mall.
As they made their way out of the mall parking and Josh noticed she kept reaching up to touch the new jewelry.
“You better stop messing with it, or you’ll get it infected.”
Her hands dropped to her lap without any comment. Josh wasn’t certain if that was a good thing or not. But at this point he had her out of the mall and they were headed home. His goal was in sight, and he was thrilled about it. Then it hit.
“Can we make one more stop? I promise it will be the last one.”
Josh tried not to sigh. “Sure. Where did you want to stop.”
“The western store. I need to look for Danny’s Christmas present.”
Some of the tension left Josh. “Okay. Is that the only thing?”
“Well…”
“Yeah?”
“My boots are shot. I need some new ones to work in.”
Josh chuckled as they turned into the store’s parking lot. His Sammy wasn’t gone, just hiding under a layer of pink.

So very excited. I put in a huge push today for me (almost 3,000 words) and finished the rough draft for Obsidian Moons, which is the sequel to Obsidian Sun. It’s slightly over 70,000 words making it a little longer than Obsidian Sun at this point. Time to put it away and let it age before I start editing.
This also gives me more time for my NaNoWriMo novel for 2015. Aerie is a high fantasy novel with an alternative world setting. Shifters, dragons, caste systems and mortal enemies. It should be fun.
So I’ll work on editing this weeks edition of Double Trouble and focus on outlining Aerie in the time I have before November 1.

“Get out! Get out! Get out of my room.” Danny screamed at Trent.
His hand on the doorknob, Trent froze, his arms filled with dirty clothes he’d been gathering up from each bedroom. Caught so unprepared by Danny’s reaction. Then it dawned on him.
“Sorry, Danny. I –”
“Get! Out!”
This time Trent shut his mouth and left. He couldn’t keep from chuckling as he walked through the living room. Josh looked up from his desk, paused for a minute and then raised an eyebrow at Trent.
“What have you done this time? What’s up with all the screaming?”
“I went into his room to make sure he was up and ready to help with the fence.”
“Yeah? And? What am I not getting? Was he not up?”
“My guess is he was very up…”
Josh looked at his husband for a few moments before the conversation clicked. “Oh, hell. You didn’t walk in on him. Please tell me that we are not going to have to put up with hormonal pissed off Danny all day.”
“Afraid so. ”
“Ah, shit. You pissed him off. I’m working with Sammy.”
“She may not be much better. She was moody last night.”
“Great. Both kids hitting puberty at the same time. Fantastic.”
“It might not be a bad idea to put all the sharp things away.”
Josh sighed and shook his head. “I was really hoping for a little more time before they turned into teenagers.”
“Yeah, well. Apparently it’s not going down that way.”
A loud bang came from the bedrooms. A moment later, Danny stomped out of his room and almost raced outside. The last thing they saw was him shoving a black cowboy hat hard onto his head. The door slammed behind him with enough force to rattle photographs on the walls.
Josh pulled on his hat. “Sammy! Let’s get going. We have to check the cows on the McCracken place.”
The young woman who followed her brother outside didn’t seem to be in any better mood. The baseball cap she was wearing was pulled low enough that neither Josh nor Trent could see her face. Of course, the fact that she never looked up didn’t make it any easier.
With a sigh, they started out the door.
By the time Trent arrived back at the ranch headquarters, his nerves were ripped apart from trying to keep his anger in check. Danny’s mood hadn’t gotten any better. He felt bad about embarrassing Danny, but the sulking teenager wore on his nerves. After a few hours of sullen indifference and outbursts, they’d come to the house. He’d left Danny cleaning out stalls, and escaped to the house in hopes that Josh would give him some ideas.
But when he rounded the corner, he froze in place at the scene of what was obviously a crisis with Sammy.
Josh hugged her tightly for quite some time. Once he let her go, she was red faced and wiping tears from her face. Trent was touched as his husband tenderly brushed a tear from their daughter’s cheek. Another few moments passed before Josh said anything.
“Go clean up. A shower will make you feel better.”
Sammy nodded and disappeared into her room. The moment the door closed, Josh jerked his phone from his pocket and hit a number on speed dial. As it rang he pulled the phone away from his mouth.
“Sammy got her—“ Josh’s expression changed and Trent knew the phone had been answered. “Hi, Nanna. I could use your help.”
There was a long pause and Josh’s face reddened before he had a chance to talk again. “I did what you said. But she’s pretty hysterical.”
“Yes, ma’am. She’s in the shower now.”
Another, even longer pause while Josh listened and nodded—a lot. “Oh, that would be amazing. I would appreciate it so much.”
“Yes, we won’t. See you in a few minutes.”
Josh hung up the phone and sighed in obvious relief. “Nanna’s coming. We might survive.”
Trent’s last thread snapped and he unleashed on Josh. “What the fuck is going on? You better damn well tell me what happened to Sammy before I rip your fucking head off and stomp it.”
Josh looked shocked for a few moments and then answered. “Sorry, it just…well it doesn’t matter. Sammy got her first period a little while ago. Nanna is coming to help. She’d offered months ago and told me what to get at the store.” He rolled his eyes at Trent. “Talk about an embarrassing shopping trip.”
Trent chuckled softly but then met Josh’s gaze. “Is she okay?”
“I guess. I hope so. It isn’t like I have experience with this.”
“Yeah, I guess so.”
The two busied themselves, hoping Nanna arrived before Sammy finished showering. Worry crept into Trent when they heard the shower turn off. He started trying to work out a way to help Sammy.
“She’s here.”
Trent could have done cartwheels at Josh’s announcement. He raced to the door, swinging it open before she even reached their porch. She stepped past them without a word and disappeared into Sammy’s room.
The time stretched out as Trent and Josh waited. Danny came in, looked at both of them, and disappeared into his room. It seemed like time crept, but then they heard the door open and Nanna walked into the living room. They watched her, trying to determine how bad things were. The elderly woman sat on the couch and smile when Josh handed her a glass of sweet tea.
“She’s fine. A little traumatized, a little embarrassed, same things a lot of us felt when this happened to us.”
“Give me your credit card, Trent. Sammy and I are going to celebrate her becoming a woman with a nice meal and some shopping. Oh, she’s also not a boy and wants to be called Samantha.”
Josh and Trent nodded in unrestrained relief.
